We are booked into Grant Village Sept 5,6,7. We picked this because it is the closest Yellowstone Hotel to the Jackson Airport. We arrive at 6:22 Pm and will drive directly there. Have we made a mistake? Most of the reviews say this is the the worst place in the park. Should we try to get on a cancellation list at some other site? Thanks, Joe
Grant Village
I don%26#39;t particularly like the location but haven%26#39;t stayed there. Its a bit of a drive, no matter where you go. Given the choice I%26#39;d rather be at Canyon or maybe even Lake.
Here%26#39;s a link to a map we put together showing mileages and driving times (estimated). Click on the white circles to see pictures or more detailed maps. I%26#39;ll try to add some Grant Village pics when we%26#39;re there in June.

You might try for cancellations at some of the other locations. If you can%26#39;t get something else, no doubt you%26#39;ll make this work and be fine.
Grant Village
Very helpful map...great photos...thanks, Joe
I don%26#39;t know why people dislike that area. I like it as it is close to the geysers in and around Old Faithful and the lake! We may spend a night there on our constantly evolving August trip!!
You have a bit further drive to Lamar Valley, Mammoth and Tower Falls area, but you still can get there.
If you want to get lodging somewhere else in the park, keep calling Xanterra to see if there are cancellations, I don%26#39;t think they have a list. At least you have lodging inside the park!!!
Enjoy your visit.
PS...... I just checked on www.travelyellowstone.com
There are a number of rooms available on the 6th and 7th:
9/6 Old Faithful Snow Lodge has a 2 double bed lodge room, Mammoth has a few different rooms and Lake Yellowstone Lodge has some queen rooms available.
9/7 Canyon has a Western Cabin, and again Mammoth has a few different types of rooms.
When I added an extra night to our yellowstone trip last year I was only able to pick up a room at Grant Village. The area around the lake is beautiful and the price was cheaper then at other locations. But, it definately was a budget style hotel. The bathroom was tiny with only a small shower stall and the room was small also. We had a mid range room with two double beds. I would probably stay there the first night as it is the closest to the airport. We also flew into Jackson. I would probably try to get a room at Canyon Village for the other two nights as it is centrally located in the park. I was very persistant and check the parks website almost everyday until I got the lodging that I wanted.
We are booked at Grant Village for two nights in late July and it was the only thing available after calling for about month straight. The rooms are not cheap there by any means. I wish someone had a picture of it. Online it looks like condos or apartments unless the website has the wrong picture up,lol. The way I look at it, I%26#39;m only in my room to shower and sleep. I will be out enjoying the whole day in t he park not hanging out in my room.
