How would you rate the Xanterra park hotels/lodges/cabins inside Yellowstone or possibly even Grant Tetons. Planning on 3 or 4 days in late August, but is may already be too late. Will still try.
Thank you in advance
Rating the Xanterra hotelsOld Faithful Lodge and hotel at Lake Yellowstone are great. Great food also! But if you need to have internet or want a TV for the latest news then you are out of luck. Will have trouble finding accomadations in the park at this late date but call the phone number and keep trying.
Rating the Xanterra hotelsi would agree with the lodge as being the best we visited. the lake was also nice but a bit dated. the hotel at mammouth hot springs was ancient, an in poor shape and our least desirable accomadation. the food at the lake was very good, and the best we found inside the park.
Rating these facilities requires a different mind set than any other lodging. They are rustic, for the most part, and really places to rest your head after being out all day exploring this huge, wonderful, park. I, also, would not stay at Mammoth. Some units at, for example, Canyon, one of the best and central locations in the park, are newer and motel like. Cabins are cheap, rustic but if you only need beds and showers, they work. I%26#39;d still choose in the park lodging, if available, over outside the park, because of proximity to the many sights, and for the national park experience.
Each traveler%26#39;s experience is different, so opinions about the lodgings vary. Our room at Old Faithful Inn was too subpar to tolerate for more than a night, so we moved to the nearby Snow Lodge which fortunately had a vacancy. The Snow Lodge is attractive and the rooms there are modern. We still enjoyed the great ambience of the Inn without having to stay there.
We enjoyed Mammoth Hot Springs as well. Our cabin there was basic, but comfortable and clean. It was quite adequate for a night%26#39;s stay. Our porch faced West, so we sat outside with a drink and watched the sunset over the formations.
The Lake Hotel gets mixed reviews, too. We stayed two nights and really liked it. We experienced good service and food in the elegant dining room. The Sun Room is a great place to relax in the afternoon or sit with a drink before dinner.
I hope you get lodging in the park. It%26#39;ll be a memorable trip.
