Short Trip - Need Help w/ Itinerary, Where to Stay, etc.

Our family has reservations in Estes Park, CO for ten days in mid-June. We are considering a short trip - maybe 4 days - to Grand Teton National Park/Yellowstone within that ten day period. We would fly from Denver to Jackson, rent a car, and see/do as much as possible before flying back to Denver. Is this a realistic plan? Obviously, it would be ideal to have more time to explore the area, but is it possible to cover a fair amount of ground in the time we have? If so, I would appreciate any recommendations of places to stay, itinerary, etc. There will be five of us - 2 adults, 3 teens. Thanks so much for any suggestions.

If it was me, I would visit Colorado this trip. Don%26#39;t try to add another entire trip to your plan. Plan to visit Tetons/Yellowstone another time. If you want to see YS/Tetons heres an idea:

Day 1 arrive Denver Drive up to RMNP

Day 2 RMNP

Day 3 RMNP

Day 4 RMNP

Day 5 Drive back to Denver. Fly to Jackson. Stay in Jackson/Tetons

Day 6 Tetons

Day 7 Drive to YS Check for any availability inside the park. Most likely you will need to get lodging in West Yellowstone

Day 8 YS

Day 9 Visit YS again, Drive to Jackson for the night.

Day 10 Fly to Denver Depart.

Given the ten days, I%26#39;d spend all my time in the Tetons and YNP. RMNP is beautiful, lots of hiking and natural beauty, but I don%26#39;t think it compares. But you did not ask me, LOL.

On the other hand, if plans call for a nice family/friends get together in Estes Park, you will have a wonderful time. You could drive through the mountains, visit and walk the small towns and the ski areas, all a neat experience. Also, you could drive to Cheyenne and Laramie for a day or two.

You can%26#39;t lose, either way.

If you were to fly into Jackson, I agree with CasaAzul, and would devote most of the time to Yellowstone than the Tetons, assuming you have never been there. The kids, and you, will never forget it. Bring binoculars, they will help make the trip.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Our trip to Estes Park is an annual vacation - we have done it every summer for approx. 15 years. We always stay at the YMCA camp, right outside RMNP, and it is a beautiful, relaxing spot. Our kids (now older teenagers) have embraced the tradition and don%26#39;t want to give it up entirely, but they would also like to visit the GTNP/YNP area. This is why we had the idea of making a shorter trip to GTNP/YNP within the timeframe of our Estes Park vacation. We would love to have more time to spend in both places, but this is as much time as my husband can take off from work. So, what would be the highlights that we could accomplish in just a few days? Where should we stay? Again, thanks so much for your help.

If you only have 4 days then I agree with Casa and spend at least one night in Jackson Hole and 4 nights in YNP. Try to get reservations in the park, if not then try West Yellowstone, Mt. or Gardiner, Mt. Do the grand loop area of Yellowstone to include Mammoth, Old Faithful, Canyon and Tower. You will see beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife. You will need to go ahead and make your reservations because they book quickly for mid-June to the end of August.
