Where to stop along the way between Detroit and Yellowstone

We have 17 days to get from Detroit area to Yellowstone and other sites and back. My husband is doing all the driving, about 8 hours per day. Please suggest and itinerary with stops including Mt. Rushmore, Devil%26#39;s Tower, Yellowstone, Tetons, maybe a Dude ranch. We plan to go by car and can bring camping stuff, although cabins and hotel/motels are fine too.

Would appreciate suggestions on stops between Michigan and Wyoming area and back.

Thanks.

It is not necessary for you to make duplicative posts. People will answer as they have time. What time of year will you be making this trip? Have you explored what accomodations are available in Yellowstone when you will be there? Some of those details would help us help you.

We plan to leave Bloomfield Hills, MI on July 4 and return on July 20. If need be, we can probably stretch it to July 21.

Thanks.

I%26#39;ll look forward to your replies.

Sounds like quite a trip. From your earlier posts, you stated you are taking a service dog in training. Be careful at the park as mentioned before. Wildlife could attack and the thermal areas can be dangerous. But on the other hand, you may not be hiking too near any wildlife or thermal areas. Dogs are allowed on the boardwalk around Old Faithful.

Now to your plan... You may also want to look at KOA Kampgrounds, they have camping cabins, which can be much nicer than tenting it! www.koa.com. We stayed at a small motel in Custer SD, the Custer Motel, inexpensive and nice for the kid and me!! www.presidentsresort.com/CusterM.htm

July 4 Depart Detroit (my mom was born there!) Drive 8 hours to get somewhere along I90 and stop! Maybe Madison WI, see fireworks! 8hrs

July 5 Drive on to Sioux Falls SD. 7 hrs

July 6 Drive to Black Hills 6 hrs. Look at lodging in Custer SD or Hill City. Also Custer State Park has some nice lodges.

July 7 Visit Black Hills, Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park

July 8 Do a cave tour at Jewel Cave Nat Mon or Wind Cave Nat Park, or even both! Jewel Cave website says service animals are allowed.

July 9 Drive up to Deadwood, maybe stay there.

July 10 See Devils Tower Nat Mon on the way to Cody WY.

July 11 Cody WY day. Visit the museums, see the rodeo.

July 12 Drive to YS. Try to get lodging inside the park.

July 13, 14, 15 YS.

July 16, 17 Tetons

July 18 Head to I80 in WY. Maybe Rawlins or Laramie

July 19, 20, 21 I80 eastbound.

Thanks for the detailed info. We appreciate it.
