a couple visiting in July

My husband and I are going to Jackson in July to see the Grand Tetons. We are going to spend 2-3 days. Here are things we enjoy,

Scenic drives-we have a convertible we will be driving through Grad Tetons

Good food

a little shopping.

We don%26#39;t care much for horse back riding or long hikes.

My question is, is 2-3 days enough time?

What are the not to be missed?

Thanks for your help.

Debbie

Have you been to Yellowstone? That would be on my not to be missed list. Its the next park up.

2 -3 days isn%26#39;t enough to see both though. The Tetons are beautiful but I have a bias towards Yellowstone.

You can look at www.AlandSueJohnson.com to see the Tetons pictures and information we have. Use the Yellowstone link at the top of the home page.

Thank you so much for the info. Yes we are going to Yellowstone first and then go on to Jackson. What is a %26#39;must see or do %26#39; in yellowstone?

Hi,

We%26#39;ve spent many years visiting Yellowstone, Grand Teton %26amp; Jackson before moving her several years ago. The vastness of Yellowstone is awesome, and it is not all geysers! Of course the area around Old Faithful and the geyser basins is extraordinary. The area around the lake is a place of quiet and solitude, if you can stay at the Lake Hotel so much the better. Area to the east of Fishing Bridge (visitor center at FB has a great water fowl focus) is supposed to be griz habitat, though we%26#39;ve not seen any there. Hayden Valley is referred to as the Serengeti of North America, lots of wildlife, especially the bison (buffalo). The Canyon area has a wonderful new visitor center, focus on volcanic features of the park; very well done. The visitor center at West Thumb has a focus on the fires of the 1980%26#39;s and how the park regenerates; Mammoth is park headquarters, great place to poke around, likely to be elk all over the place, lounging about!

Since hiking and horseback rides are out (though, the ride out of Jackson Lake Lodge is enjoyable) I would recommend a whitewater trip on the Snake River. It%26#39;s a hoot! And you can get pics of your ride over the Big Kahuna through float-o-graphs, via the vender you choose for the ride; we%26#39;ve always used Mad River, but there are many in Jackson, even ones that do a much tamer float through Grand Teton.

Foodwise: visit the visitor center and pick up the dining guide! Also brouse through all the brochure racks; lots of stuff to do.

i would spend more than a couple of days if you can. the town of jackson is well worth spending at least a day just hanging around town. you can spend a day driving around jackson %26amp; the teton np. you need a couple of days in yellowstone imo to make it worthwhile. i%26#39;d book early %26amp; stay at the lake yellowstone hotel %26amp; eat in the restaurant. it%26#39;s just a very neat place to visit. the evenings are great in the lobby. they have a piano bar area where it%26#39;s nice to sit %26amp; wait on your dinner reservations. after dinner you can sit around one of the windows overlooking the lake %26amp; warm your feet on the old steam heaters that surround the walls.

you need to drive north from there toward the canyon area %26amp; get a glimpse of both upper %26amp; lower falls. the short drive from lake yellowstone to the canyon area is beautiful %26amp; you will most likely have to slow down for buffalo. turn west from there %26amp; make your way over to old faithful, just to say you%26#39;ve seen it erupt. seeing the lodge is worth the drive. you can actually make the entire ';figure 8'; loop easy in two days %26amp; you probably haven%26#39;t driven 150 miles total.

Northern Jackson Lake-From Lizard Creek Campground for four miles south, Highway 89-191 follows the eastern shore of Jackson Lake. Several turnouts to enjoy view and wildlife.

Colter Bay-Deers feed at edge of forest as well as squirrels and hares.

Oxbow Bend-One mile east of Jackson lake junction. View moose, elk and otters in early hours.

Teton Park Road from Signal Mountain to South Jenny Lake-Pronghorn and elk early morning.

I think two days is enough to see the Grand Tetons. We did a raft trip down the Snake River and loved it.
