I am wondering if anyone has been on the Castagno Outfitters Covered Wagon dinner. This seems to be smaller and less crowded for our tastes but we will listen to reviews if you have opinions before deciding.
Thanks,
poz
Castagno Outfitters chuckwagon dinnerWe are thinking of doing this one too because of the smaller sizes of the crowds. pozj, I assume you%26#39;ve seen the website but here it is anyway.

When are you going? We will be there June 13-17.
Castagno Outfitters chuckwagon dinnerhi snorkelgirlie,
I was looking at the 3 major chuckwagon dinners.
I think Bar T does dutch ovens..Bar J is way to big for me..I think Castango will be the one we will go with.
Yes, I saw the website, but thanks for posting it.
We will be in GTNP 7/31-8/3.
If you go to Castango%26#39;s , I will be interested in hearing how you liked it, if you do a trip report.
Thanks again %26amp; have fun!
After all the help i%26#39;ve gotten here, I will definitely be writing a trip report! i%26#39;ll let you know on the chuckwagon. My boys love steak and I hate big crowds so I think that%26#39;s the one we will go with. When the season opens for the spring I%26#39;ll give them a call and get a feel for it over the phone, then i%26#39;ll post that as well.
Hi Pozi and Snorkelgirlie,
You will really like the Castagno Outfitters ride. If you are looking for small crowds and the best food between the three choices, the Castagno%26#39;s is the best one, with Bar J being the best for entertainment and the Bar T5 being the best for both. The scenery for the Castagno%26#39;s ride is by far the best. The one thing to remember is that it is about a 50 minute ride from town (bar J is about 20 minutes and the Bar T5 is right in town). Castagno meeting place is right outside the south entrance of Yellowstone. On the way home, because it is close to dusk, you do see a ton of wildlife in the meadows coming out to graze for the evening.
I think both of you were also looking at a river trip...you might want to check out the Dave Hansen Whitewater website because they have a package with the Castagno Outfitters and there is a pretty good savings there. Have a great trip out here!
Thanks for the info, Jackson Traveler.
We are staying at Signal Mountain Lodge so it sounds like it may be closer for us. I will check out the Dave Hansen deals as well.
Thanks again!
Now that%26#39;s the kind of comparison I was looking for from someone who knows! Thanks jackson traveler! I%26#39;ve been to Dave Hansens website and I don%26#39;t think they mention Castagno, so now I%26#39;ll look again. That might work out great for us, thanks again!
Jackson Travler, How far is it from the Signal Mountain Lodge and Colter Bay and how much time would it take to get back there? Would it be dark or dusk and would it be a safe trip back?
It is about 20 minutes from Signal Mountain Lodge and about 30-35 minutes from Colter Bay. You can definitely make it home before it gets dark...the only thing that might cause it to take longer is if you decide to stop off in the meadows on the drive home looking for the big elk bulls or for some Moose. It is really the perfect time of the day and place to spot them.
Great. I will probably stop off at the meadow to see wildlife. I am probably going to the dinner in GT instead of when I am in YS at Roosevelt because I do not want to take time away from wildlife viewing. This way I can go to the dinner and see wildlife, a perfect combination.
Hey, Jackson Traveler- I checked out Dave Hansen and found the package you mentioned; I hadn%26#39;t seen it before on the site. That is going to work perfectly!! Thanks for the tip and for saving me some $! This site (and you locals) rock!
Snorkelgirlie
