Hello,
We are planning a trip to Grand Tetons, Yellowstone for August 2008. We are flying in and out of Jackson and renting a SUV and trailer instead of a RV so we won%26#39;t have to travel everywhere with a RV.
We are planning 10 days, so I am looking for the best things to see, can%26#39;t miss etc. Planning on staying in Grand Tetons first and then heading up to Yellowstone. We are thinking we would stay in a few campgrounds in Yellowstone, see what there is to see in that area and move on. Suggestions appreciated!
Advice on what to see
First of all, have you found a car rental place and a rv rental place that will allow you to rent? I have been looking for a trailer rental... haven%26#39;t found much. Most car rental places will not rent cars if you are going to tow a vehicle.
If all this works out.. then spend 3 nights in Tetons, then 6 nights in YS then back to Jackson for the last night.
Campgrounds in Tetons we are planning, 2 nights in Gros Ventre and 1 night in Lizard Creek. Yellowstone CG%26#39;s are 2 nights Madison, 2 nights Canyon and 1 night in Bridge Bay or Grants Village.
Also look at a night in Cody WY to see the rodeo and the museums.
Advice on what to see
YNP has a figure 8 road system (plus side roads), and they take you to numerous sites and sights. You will derive pleasure by simply pulling off when you see signs, and by following the park map provided at the park entrance, and by looking at it on the park website. You are wisely giving yourselves lots of time, and will enjoy all of it, so don%26#39;t worry about the highlights; you will see them several times on your journey. Be prepared for hot days and quite cool nights (typically). Have a cooler with beverages and food, so you can stay in any chosen spot while wildlife watching. Bring binoculars and scope, if you have one, or ask anyone with one what they are seeing. Well worth it.
