I am going to Grand Teton and Yellowstone in May, and would like to do some backpacking.
Do any of you have any recommendations? I heard the NW Corner of Yellowstone (Sportsman Lake Trail) is a nice area. Any ideas?
I%26#39;ll have May 9-17 to do both GT and Yellowstone.
Thanks.

Best Yellowstone Backpacking
Greetings Bulldog,
I think that there are many great backpacking trip s in the both parks, but with your early dates your choices will be a bit limited in some areas especially in the higher elevations.
Do a search on hiking Yelowstone and Grnad teton and you will find the offical park site where all of the reg%26#39;s and sites are listed. Here are a site that you might find helpful: www.yellowstone-natl-park.com/back.htm.
In YNP during that time there are also wildlife (bear) closure areas to contend with. This doesn%26#39;t mean that you can%26#39;t find a great place to backpack, just that you will want to do your reasearch first.
Feel free to ask me any questions and I will be glad to help as best I can.

Bulldog - Your best bet for early May this year is going to be areas in the northern parts of the park where spring comes earlier, and snows will recede there earlier. Especially this year.
We are having a tremendous snow year here in West Yellowstone and the interior sections of the Park...over 4 feet of snow on the ground at Canyon and 56'; at Grant Village. The mountains around West Yellowstone with equipment to report snow totals are at 117';. And, that is with two more months of snow yet to come.
Unless we have an unusual spring, there will still be alot of snow in the back country. Of course, you may like snow camping!
