How many days in Cody

We will be heading from the Mt Rushmore area over thru Devil%26#39;s Tower and Red Lodge and would like to make a side stop in Cody before heading to West Yellowstone. Just wondering how many days we need to see some stuff. Thanks

How many days in Cody

Cody has a lot. We had friends who visited in June 2007 and they loved their 2 days in Cody.

We plan to visit Rushmore, Custer State Park and the badlands for a couple of days and then make a late afternoon stop at Devils Tower. We will spend the night at a B%26amp;B cabin in Sundance. I would like to be in Cody by 3:00 or so the next afternoon. We plan to be at the Buffalo Bill museums from mid-afternoon until close to closing time (8:00) and then we will either go to the Night Rodeo or attend an Old West Show called the Dan Miller Cowboy Music Review. While I would live to see the rodeo there, we will probably pick the Music Review. We will be in West Yellowstone the next 4 nights and they will have a rodeo there on 3 of those nights.

Look on the Cody Chamber website and the Buffalo Bill webpage for a list of activities. I wish we could have another day in Cody, but I am having to limit time in order to give us 4 days in Yellowstone.

I plan to enter the park on the East Entrance, but if the weather is good, I might make a last minute decision to drive the Chief Joseph Highway and enter at Cooke City.

How many days in Cody

Hi

Don%26#39;t know what time of year you are coming. In summer I would take most of the day just to drive from Red Lodge via Beartooth Pass (212) and Chief Joseph Hw (296) and the first visit to Cody. Then stay all day in Cody, visit the Buffalo Bill museums and see some of the scenery around Cody. Attend the Nite Rodeo.

Then next day enter Yell by it%26#39;s east entrance and to West Yellowstone.

The length of the trip via Red Lodge to the Beartooth is why I will probably enter from the East. Going through Red Lodge would take a lot of time away from Yellowstone. Even though I know the Beartooth would be awesome, I am looking forward to seeing why Teddy Roosevelt called the drive in from Cody ';the most scenic 50 miles in America';.

Maybe one day when my wife I are empty nester%26#39;s, we can get back out west and spend a few weeks hitting some of the places we will have to skip this summer.

Hi Tn

Nubbsy mentioned Red Lodge in his/her post so I think they will be driving from Devils Tower through Wy/Mt to Red Lodge first. And for that 50 miles....It%26#39;s very scenic all right but Teddy must have missed some other roads.....

The 50 miles to the east gate are wonderful, but it doesn%26#39;t beat the Beartooth Pass. I remember taking a friend through Chief Joseph Scenic first, and his jaw was dropped the whole way, and I kept telling him that it gets better, and better and it does.

In terms of budgeting time, it is the hardest thing about visiting the region. Some people spend all day at the Buffalo Bill Museums, and you can, while others take a day drive through CJ and the Beartooths, have lunch in Red Lodge, come back to Cody, clean up at the hotel catch dinner at the Proud Cut and run out to the rodeo.

We have budgeted the best of all worlds into our upcoming trip. We will spend 1 night in Red Lodge, drive over Beartooth first thing in the morning. Spend the next afternoon and evening in Lamar Valley and spend the night in Cooke City.

The next day we will drive Chief Joseph highway to Cody and spend the night in Cody. We wil spend as much time as we can in the Buffalo Bill Museum. Since we will have been driving a lot in the previous 4 days, we booked the Best Western in Cody so that we can just walk from our room to the museum.

Its a lot of driving, packing and unpacking but I think it will be worth it. The rest of our days will be staying put a few days at a time and then finally a week to hike and relax in Rocky Mountain NP (staying put for a week in one place)
