We are planning a trip for the last week in May but I fear that we may be too early for the ranger talks. Does anyone know when these begin? Is it worth pushing our trip back by a week to get in on these? We have three kids (9,7, and 5) and want to get the most out of our 6 days in YS. We were planning on end of May to avoid some of the crowds. Any thoughts?
When in the season do the ranger talks start?
Hi CactusCampers and welcome to the forum!
They have not came out with a schudle for 2008 yet. Here is a link to the 2007 schudele. Most did not start untill June: www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/rangerprog.htm
I enjoyed the talks and most children love the Junior Ranger Program.
Most of the park will just be opening up in the end of May. If possible, I would move your trip into June when everything was up an running. Then it would be baby season in the park :-)
I have not been to YS in June, but it is my understanding that it is not that crowded then. I am sure that other TA members will share thier experinces with you.
Whenever you go, Yellowstone is a great park to experince. Enjoy your trip!
When in the season do the ranger talks start?
Generally, the in-park talks start Memorial Day weekend. You could push your trip to the first week of June. Historically, Yellowstone does not start to get busy until mid-June.
I would also recommend that you look into the Junior Ranger Program for you 9 and 7-year old. This is a great program where your kids sign up (minimal charge about $5), get a workbook, choose their activities (include attending a ranger presentation), and can earn a badge like the one the rangers wear!
