Hello,
I%26#39;m planning a trip to Yellowstone with a large family. (Two adults, five children.) We%26#39;re homeschoolers, so can travel off season. The kids are pretty flexible about sleeping on the floor or sleeping three to a bed, or whatever. Everything we%26#39;ve looked at is either too small, booked up way in advance, or too expensive. (We%26#39;ve been looking for something in Sept., but could change that.) Does anybody have any cost cutting advice?
Thanks!
Yellowstone with a large family and small budget
Have you thought about camping? Yellowstone has several campgrounds near popular areas and close to park stores and cafeterias. I%26#39;m not sure about the weather factor getting into September, but it would be fine in August. I spent almost a week in a tent at Bridge Bay Campground and loved it.
You can check it out at the NPS website.

Expensive is a relative term. If you could give us a better idea of what would be in your budget, we may be able to help.
Agree with the need to know what%26#39;s affordable.
Also, camping is a solution, but I%26#39;d be leery of, and ready to accept, weather changes, i.e., cold, in September.
In West Yellowstone, there are a number of hotels %26amp; motels that have family units with extra beds or multiple rooms. And, in the fall, room rates are generally better than in the summer. If you want to email me, I can give you some options.
Also, please think about the Junior Ranger Program and Young Scientist Programs. These are programs offered by Yellowstone Park that great for homeschoolers. (Last year, I met a number of homeschool families who incorporated these into their science cirriculums). Let me know if you would like more information on these.
You may also want to look at KOA Kampgrounds. Many have cabins that will fit your family, some even have bathrooms.
Look also at lodging in West Yellowstone, Gardiner and there are some lodges near the East Entrance/Cody WY.
