Will fly in on 6/3 and out on 6/9. Question is where is best place to fly into and out of? Have 2 nights reservations @ Canyon Lodge on the 5 %26amp; 6th and Old Faithful Inn on 6/7. Any suggestions as if we should fly in/out of Denver, or into Denver out in Salt Lake City. Don%26#39;t know the distance but thought someone on this forum may know driving times and have suggestions. Want to see as much as practicable and do not know what would be the best scenic routes. Any would be appreciated. Thanks.
New Orleans to Yellowstone NP?
The closest airport is Jackson Hole, Wy. Next closest are the Montana airports, Boseman and Billings. Next closest is Salt Lake (at least a probably an 8 hour drive (assuming traffic cooperates). Denver is at least a 9 1/2 hour drive.
The most scenic (limiting it to the major airports - SLC vs. Denver) is to fly into Salt Lake and drive up through Wyoming.
New Orleans to Yellowstone NP?
I would fly out of SLC. It is a 5 hour drive from Jackson Hole. We did this last year. Jackson Hole and Billings are close airports but no direct flights.
With only a few days, I would fly to the closest place you can. SLC would be much closer than Denver, but Jackson would be best!!! (tho probably not the cheapest)
6/3 - Arrive SLC. If you get in early enough, you can probably get to Jackson this day, or at least outside of SLC.
6/4 - See the Tetons. Stay in Jackson or inside Tetons.
6/5 - Canyon
6/6 - Canyon
6/7 - Old Faithful
6/8 - Jackson in the morning, then drive on to SLC
6/9 - Depart.
Thanks to everyone for your helpfl replies. Have decided we will fly into SLC or Jackson, and hoping to add another day to our vacation. Again, thank you!
I know your plans include Jackson, but flying to Cody, via Denver or SLC is a good option for many. Granted it isn%26#39;t cheap, rarely will you be able to fly to COD or Jackson for less than $400 from any other major city not named SLC or DIA.
It is about 50 miles to Yellowstone Park from Cody. Billings is a good hour and a half away from Cody, though people who fly through Billings from the east or south need to take Northwest, via Minneapolis. You will enjoy a drive from SLC up to Jackson.
Although, there is no better drive in the U.S. than the Beartooth Pass which winds from Red Lodge, Montana to near the NE gate to the park. The problem is, there%26#39;s a chance it won%26#39;t be open in early June. It typically is, but sometimes it isn%26#39;t.
