One our road trip in summer 08, we will be driving from Denver to Billings. On another forum, unrelated to trip advisor, I read that the hotels in Casper that are located along I-25, are ok, but are in neighborhoods that one would not necessarily want to frequent except for temporary lodging. Can anyone with local knowledge comment on this and/or recommend overnight lodging establishments in Casper ? Casper is not our destination but will be a drive through on the way north.
Would you drive further than Casper and recommend another town to stay in? I have heard Sheridan is a nice town to stay in.
Comments appreciated.
Casper hotelsIf you are leaving Denver in the morning, I would drive to Buffalo or Sheridan, about 5.5-6 hours away. It will be 4 lane interstate highway the entire way. We are planning a Sheridan visit for our trip next summer, after visiting Little Bighorn Battlefield and possibly seeing the rodeo there in July.
Casper hotelsThanks,Casa.Sheridan is more appealing than Casper from what I have read. I guess it depends on how early we get into Denver. 5-6 hours in the car after a long flight might be too much in one day.
Some of the older hotels in Casper are in an area that one might not consider the best. However, in the last few years many new hotels have sprung up in other parts of town. If you are concerned, I would suggest you exit the freeway at Wyoming Blvd just as you come into town. Here you will find a number of hotels (Holiday Inn Express, the new Marriott Courtyard, Comfort Inn, Super 8 East, C%26#39;mon Inn and more). You will also find the mall and a number of restaurants - mostly chains like Applebee%26#39;s, Perkins, IHOP and Red Lobster or fast food outlets, but also, if you go east on 2nd St., a main artery that goes by the mall (and incidentally all the way through town in the other direction if you are interested in checking out Casper) for a couple of miles you will find Firerock steakhouse, a nice new restaurant that looks very fancy but will be happy to seat you in jeans. More expensive than the other choices, but worth it.
Sheridan is a nice town to stop in, but it is a couple of hours farther on down the freeway. Please don%26#39;t have any qualms about spending the night in Casper, we%26#39;re a nice town, too.
(And, if you are interested in the Old West and have a little time to spare, I%26#39;d recommend a visit to Fort Caspar.)
wyowy,
Thanks for the info. Right now if I get the flight I want, we will be staying in Story, but if we have to lfly a day earlier we could end up there. I actually found a nice B%26amp;B in Casper that is on my list.
