2 questions, need advise

My husband and I, sister-in-law and family of 6 will be visiting YNP 1st week in June. We will fly in to Salt Lake City and spend a few days in Jackson Hole, then onto YNP and on to Cody. Could someone please tell me in driving time how long will it take to get from Cody back to Salt Lake City and prehaps the best scenic route? Second question: Trying to decide between horseback riding or river rafting/float trip while in Cody. Anyone have any recommendations?

If you use MapQuest, under Directions, enter from Cody, WY to Salt Lake City, UT. It says:

Total Est. Time: 8 hours, 26 minutes

Total Est. Distance: 467.80 miles

The map shows the route as Cody to W. Yellowstone then south to SLC. There are alternatives; others can speak to that.

I would do a raft trip in Jackson Hole and horseback riding in Cody. The best route is to go back thru Yellowstone from Cody and then from Jackson Hole it is 5 hours to Salt Lake City. We drove from Jackson Hole to SLC last year and made it in 5 hours but be sure and take the route thru Wyoming. It is much closer than going thru Idaho. I would drive from SLC to West Yellowstone, Mt. and start my tour of YNP, then go to Cody and back to Jackson Hole. It is about 5-6 hours from SLC to West Yellowstone thru Idaho.

The one time I did the river rafting trip through Cody (Shoshone River) it was fun, but relatively safe. If you are looking for a thrilling ride, this won%26#39;t meet that criteria, but still fun, if it is something you must do. It is right in the Cody area, so not hard to arrange.

Several horsebacking options in Cody, and parts east, though I can%26#39;t recall the actual business we hired. Both were fun, my Mom just takes us out there (my folks live in Cody). Sorry, I%26#39;m short on those details.
