Hello, need help choosing campgrounds, would like to have some reservations set before trip in August.
We will have 6 days in Yellowstone, but want to do one night in Cody. We will be towing trailer and don%26#39;t want to move it too much. I was thinking
about staying at Grant 3 days, seeing Old Faithful area and Lake area and then moving to Canyon to see upper loop. Anyone ever stay at Grant? Thanks.
Camping in YellowstonHi,
Grant Viallage Campground is a nice full service camp situated amoung the trees on the southwest shore of Yellowstone Lake. I think it is a very pretty area and having the lake close is a nice bonus.
If you look at a map of the park, an alternative if you can%26#39;t get into Grant would be Madison Junction. I think it is just as nice as it sits at the juction of the Firehole, Gibbon, and Madison rivers and is very nice to walk in the evenings. The only downside is there are no showers at Madison, but it is closer to West Yellowstone if that is a factor for you.
Are you planning to tent or RV camp? Tent camping offers much greater flexability and you might even find other campgrounds to checkout while you are moving around.
I hope you enjoy your trip,
- Kery
Camping in YellowstonThis is a link to a great page on camping in Yellowstone. Not only does it have the same information as on the Park site, but John has links to maps of the specific campgrounds.
This is really helpful in making your site reservations (which you need to do as soon as you can!). The campgrounds do sell out in Yellowstone in August!
The comparison chart shows different services by campground. We prefer the smaller campgrounds in trees in August (days are sunny and warm) like Norris.
