Grand Teton/Jackson 6nts too long in late Sept?

Could anyone HELP..We are thinking of spending 3nts in Yellowstone then driving south to Grand Teton and Jackson. This would be the last week in Sept, flying from Jackson on the Sept 30th or Oct 1st. I%26#39;m trying to finalize dates for flights and was thinking of 2nts in Grand Teton area and at least 3nights, maybe 4nights in Jackson after we leave Yellowstone. Is this too many nights for late

Sept since many activities are already closed. OR, should I plan on staying 4 or 5 nights just in Jackson and drive up to GNTP. PLEASE HELP!

I think it would be too long in Jackson for that time of the year. Too early for skiing and too late for many other activities. Some things begin to close down after the summer crowds leave. I would suggest either more time in Yellowstone or perhaps going to Cody - they have a fantastic museum there.

I have figured in 2nts in Cody before the 3nts in Yellowstone ... What I%26#39;m confused about...should I stay in Jackson 4nts with day trips to GTNP or split the stays .. maybe 2 or 3nts in Teton area and 3nts in Jackson. Anyone have other suggestions.

It depends on what you like to do. Personally (obviously), I agree with previous poster, another night or two in YNP. If you like wildlife at all, you will want to go back to several places, e.g., Lamar and Hayden Valleys, plus most places in between. Bring binoculars; ask folks with spotting scopes what they are seeing.

I didn%26#39;t make it clear in my prior post that Jackson sits on the very edge of the Grand Tetons. As soon as you head north out of town you are on the scenic byway and within about 15 minutes you will be in the park and within 30 minutes you can be at Jenny Lake (a good place to rent a boat in the mornings - afternoons are too windy). So, if you add up your nights in Jackson and GTNP, that is 5 or 6 nights, way too many for the number of activities that will be avaialable.

Definitely add nights to your Yellowstone stay. I would say 2 nights in Cody, 5 nights in Yellowstone and 3 nights max for the Tetons, staying in Jackson or the park. As the someone else said, Jackson is really right there and would be a fine base for the Tetons. If you stay inside the park in Yellowstone, you might want to split your stay between 2 areas (2 nights in the Lake or Old Faithful area and another 3 nights around Mammoth area (I believe Canyon will be closed by this time. You can also consider staying outside the park in West Yellowstone or Gardiner. Have a great time.

if you%26#39;ve got 8 days or so i%26#39;d spend the bulk of it in the parks. here%26#39;s kind of my idea...

ynp-i%26#39;d spend at least 4 days here especially if you like hiking. lots of great areas to explore without a lot of driving. you%26#39;ve got to see old faithful, the mammouth hot springs area, the canyon area, %26amp; of course yellowstone lake area. if you can spend a night in the old hotel it%26#39;s great. also make dinner reservations in their restaurant. plan your trip so that you can drive north from lake yellowstone through the hayden valley. lots of wildlife in this area. go out the ne entrance %26amp; take the chief joseph scenic hwy to cody.

cody-make sure you go to the rodeo. it%26#39;s worth it. you can spend as much time in the buffalo bill museum as you want. it%26#39;s huge. also, visit the sierra trading post outlet. some great bargains in there.

gtnp-this is one of my favorite area. make sure to go to jenny lake. they have a lodge there but it%26#39;s pretty pricey. includes two meals %26amp; horseback riding so it%26#39;s a little deceiving. jackson lake lodge is another great place to stay in the park but as short as the drive is you might prefer staying in jackson %26amp; just driving up a couple of days. make sure to take the boat ride across jenny lake %26amp; hike up to inspiration point. hidden falls is very close by %26amp; if you have a lot of energy go up cascade canyon as far as you want to. there%26#39;s always a couple of moose that stay up near the stream.

jackson-my favorite town in the u.s. don%26#39;t know where you want to stay but jackson is a great place to base yourself out of to do many things. white water, float trips, hiking, rodeo, chuckwagons, etc. i love the sundance inn. it%26#39;s a 1960%26#39;s type motel but very clean %26amp; has tons of character. great owners %26amp; only 1 block from the square. very reasonable. any of the town square hotels are fine. we also like inn on the creek. small, quaint bed-n-breakfast type hotel. about 4 blocks from the square right on a very nice creek. a little more pricey but also very romantic. we%26#39;ve also stayed at the wagon wheel village which has several different types of accomadations. the wyoming suites that are in the back right on the water are nice. the wagon wheel has a restaurant, saloon, laundry, %26amp; convenient store all located on site. it%26#39;s about 5 blocks from the town square just north on the drive toward the parks.

while in jackson go over to teton village. if the tram is running take it up to the top of rendevous mountain. gorgeous view. the mangy moose is a neat bar %26amp; restaurant.

We spent 8 days/nights in Jackson Hole last year, end of September. We liked it so much, we%26#39;re going back again this year. We didn%26#39;t run out of things to do - took some easy hikes, went on a river float trip, spent lots of time on scenic drives viewing wildlife. The aspens are changing colors - best time ever for photography. LOTS of wildlife everywhere - it%26#39;s the elk bugling season. Took day trips into Idaho and to Yellowstone. Can%26#39;t wait to go again. This time, it%26#39;s for 10 days starting out in Jackson, on to Bozeman, Montana area through Yellowstone, then back to Jackson for several days.

Be aware that most of the accomodations in Grand Teton start shutting down mid to late September. The same is true in Yellowstone.

The park is open, but most of the lodges may be closed for the season (including dining and shops) Colter Bay closes early, as does Jenny Lake Lodge. Jackson Lake Lodge may be open thru the 3rd or 4th weekend in September. Signal Mountain may still be open %26#39;til 1st weekend in October, it%26#39;s a lovely spot on the lake, the best margaritas and nachos around!!

Best to check with Grand Teton Lodge Company before you finalize Jackson accomodations. If you wind up spending 5 nites in Jackson, you might think about renting a condo. Especially if you won%26#39;t be able to stay in the park.

There will still be plenty to do and see. The park is beautiful that time of year, lots of animals and the aspens are in various shades of yellow, gold %26amp; red. Jackson is still quite lively, as it is not quite the ';shoulder season'; for us yet. There will still be a bit of artsy stuff going on; Thursday nites are gallery walk nights, many have receptions with featured artists. The National Museum of Wildlife Art, just north of town often has events (day and night) Nice cafe for lunch. One wall has in museum corridor personalized tiles; look for Bill %26amp; Hillary%26#39;s (if that kind of thing floats your boat.)

The tram in the village is being replaced, and likely won%26#39;t be ready when you are here. There is a gondola up to a restaurant, though. Not quite the same as taking the tram and hiking up there.

To be honest to an earlier poster, having lived here for 5 years, I have yet to run out of things to do or see. As of this writing, there are two moose sitting in the front walk of a house down the street, a bald eagle just flew by, and 2 swans. And I don%26#39;t even live in the park! :-)

If you go to Cody, the rodeo is only open in the summer months but the museums will be. I do not think that I would spend more than 2 nights in Jackson.

Can anyone shed some light on lodging in GTNP...of the 3nts in Sept I was thinking of staying at the Jackson Lake Lodge they do not have a room with a view which I was kind of hoping to have .. is it worth staying at the the lodge in a non-view room or should I consider Signal Mtn lodge which has view accommodations available. Any opinions as to which is the nicer of the two... Pricing is just about the same ... I%26#39;m also open to any other suggestions. Also where is that Mangy Moose place? Once again thanks for your responses.
