Glacier NP, Yellowstone,Grand Teton - help with plan needed

Am planning on driving from Calgary to Glacier NP, YNP and possibly GTNP for one week in July or August . Thinking 2 nights in Glacier (Many Glacier if there%26#39;s a cancellation!) and 3 in Yellowstone. Not sure about GTNP - sugggestions please - should we include it on limited time and if so how long compared to the other 2 NP%26#39;s. Gather that doing the Going to the Sun road is a must and doing the figure 8 loop drive in YNP. Taking kids aged 10 %26amp; 12 - we all love walking, scenery and wildlife. Any suggestions or itinerary ideas very welcome. What would I do without Tripadvisor! Thanks everyone.

We have never been to Glacier. It is on our list for next year. For YNP I would recommend at least three days and another 2 for GTNP. Since YNP and GT adjoin I would see both together. If you don%26#39;t have reservations in the park, then I would try to get them either in West Yellowstone or Gardiner and in Jackson Hole. You will see more wildlife and scenery in YNP and GT. From what I understand Glacier is much more mountanious.

That%26#39;s a lot of time in the car. If you can squeeze in a couple more days, it might be better.

Two nights in Glacier and 3 in YNP is probably right given the short amount of time you have. You%26#39;ll probably see just enough to make you go back next year.

The Tetons are very impressive. I wouldn%26#39;t plan on staying down there though. If you get an urge to drive down for the day, that would be OK.

We put our trip reports, pictures and planning information for Glacier and Yellowstone on our website. There%26#39;s Teton pictures in with the Yellowstone trip. One of our trips to YNP was 3 days so that might help.

You might have more fun making a 2 day drive to Yellowstone and spending 5 days there before heading back. That would certainly let you see the Tetons.

You might try a real early morning start towards Glacier and go across Going to the Sun Road before continuing on down. It looked to me like you go pretty close to it but I don%26#39;t know if its still a 2 day drive if you do that.

Lots of driving, but if you have 10 days... may be a doable trip.

Day 1 Drive to Glacier Nat Park.

Day 2 Glacier day. Stay on the east side

Day 3 Glacier. Drive Going to the sun. Stay on the west side

Dya 4 Drive to YS. 6-8 hours

Day 5 Visit YS. Get lodging now for inside the park, not much left. www.travelyellowstone.com. If you can%26#39;t then look at Gardiner MT and West Yellowstone MT.

Day 6 Visit YS

Day 7 Visit YS

Day 8 Drive to Tetons. Stay in Tetons or Jackson, again look at lodging options now.

Day 9 Start your drive back home. Maybe drive from Jackson into ID, then north to Ennis and then on to Helena+

Day 10 Driving

Thanks guys. Have re-looked at the distances and now thinking maybe we%26#39;ll give Glacier a miss and do it on a long weekend from here. That way we could go via highway Can4/ US15 bypassing Glacier, via Great Falls to Yellowstone in about 10 1/2 hrs according to Google Maps. If we were to stay somewhere en route can anyone suggest a pleasant or convenient stopover location. We probably wouldn%26#39;t want much more than an 8 hr drive in any day (which is why I%26#39;d initially thought we could stop in Glacier for 1-2 nights and then venture on and come back the direct way.) Is there anything interesting or scenic on the drive to Yellowstone from Alberta? Cheers.
