89 or 191 to bozeman?

When we leave the park and head to bozeman, is the Mammoth to Bozeman via 89/90 route or the west yellowstone to bozeman via 191 more scenic? We%26#39;ll have seen the park loop by then, just wondering which route is the most scenic once we%26#39;re outside the park.

THANKS!!!

89 or 191 to bozeman?

89/90 follows a wide valley along rivers with mountains in the background. Lots of wildlife you should watch for. Some small towns along the way.

191 from West Yellowstone to Bozeman travels through a section of Yellowstone National Park for the first 35 miles, and then follows the Gallatin River north through a steep canyon. The Big Sky area is located about 1/2 way and worth a side trip if you have time. This route is more desolate to start and then heavier traffic with winding curves north of Big Sky. Here is a link to an article about the YNP part of the road: www.thebigskysun.com/article.cfm…

89 or 191 to bozeman?

So if we don%26#39;t make a side trip through West Yellowstone to Big Sky earlier in our trip, you think both routes to bozeman are pretty equally scenic? Or does one stand out? We%26#39;re coming in from Jackson, spending the week between jackson, tetons, and yellowstone, then departing from Bozeman.

Thanks for the help.

My opinion (others can differ!) is that the ride from West to Bozeman is more scenic!

I went to college in Bozeman and had become pretty used to the gorgeous scenery, but was still blow away when I finally went down through West Yellowstone - Gorgeous!!!!

follow the gallatin river from west yellowstone north, very scenic and easily done in a few hours. take 191.

After spending 20 years driveing both routes I have to recommend 191 through the Gallitin Valley. It follows the river from near its head waters in the park almost Bozeman and looks like a scene out of A River Runs Through It.It offers many pullouts to safely stop and take pictures and dip your feet in the river. And if you want an excellent dinner stop and Buck%26#39;s T4 resturant at Big Sky for a bison filet to die for and the wine list it deserves.

If you are interested in fly fishing, it is one of Montanas hallowed waters and is a simply beautiful drive.

I have always felt the the drive from Gardiner to Livingston to be nice, but the valley is huge and the mostly plain in comparison, but that is jut my opinion.

Safe travels,

- Kery

Thanks all. West yellowstone sounds great.
