Need help.. hubby has bad back.. need good beds..

Hi all

Our trip has taken another twist. My husband has a pinched nerve, getting ready for some major medical treatments. Not sure what all it entails yet.

We need to have a GOOD bed to sleep in for our nights in Jackson. We will be there Aug 1-4, and can split stays if need be.

Anyone have any recommendations for places with comfortable beds??

Are the beds at Jackson Lake Lodge ok? How about those at Colter Bay cabins? Right now I am looking at Homewood Suites or a condo in Jackson area.

Thanks for any and all help!!!

Good luck with the treatments. About 7 years ago, I had some major back problems 6 weeks before we had planned to take a surprise Christmas Trip to Disney World. (We didn%26#39;t tell our children about the trip until it was time to leave.)

Luckily, after a week in bed and 5 weeks of doing a lot of exercises that my doctor and an athletic trainer put together, I was able to make the trip without too much pain. I was a lot more comfortable walking than I was traveling. I did have to carefully pick the rides in the parks.

I hope he can get some relief soon and that you will be able to have an enjoyable trip.

Thanks tntlands! The drive from NN to WY will be the worst part I think!

Any on ideas... would help.

While we were traveling, every couple of hours, we would find an interstate rest area and I would walk for 10-15 minutes to ';loosen'; up my back. We also split the 11 hour drive to Orlando up into 2 days. That helped a lot.

We will be driving from NM to Boulder CO, staying at the lodge of my mom!!! Then a drive to Lander WY.

We are going to purchase a top end air bed and bring along anything else he needs in case the beds are not good.

I am just looking for info on beds in Jackson....

Thanks!

Hi Casa,

I don%26#39;t know about the quality of beds..that will be hit or miss, I%26#39;m afraid, no matter where you are..unless you go to a very new hotel or condo with new beds. You can also ask if there are new beds when you make reservations. This fall I was at a hotel and my husband was awaiting back surgery. i had heard that another guest at the hotel had a pillow top mattress in her room and our room had the most awful , very old bed. I went to the front desk and asked if they had any beds available that were newer, as my husband had a bad back and they gave us a new room with a very new bed. It doesn%26#39;t cost to ask.

The advise about stopping frequently is the best advise you can get. My husband had back surgery (spinal fusion) in late November and the doctor tells us that all the time. Don%26#39;t sit for long period of times..even if it is every half hour, get up and walk around. He may want to bring a small pillow in the car for low back support as well. Hopefully he will be better by then. My hubby has had 2 surgeries in the last year and he plans on hiking a lot on this vacation..his surgeon says go for it.

Don%26#39;t forget..ask for the newest bed in the house!

I thought the beds at Jackson Lake Lodge were good. I wasn%26#39;t dealing with a bad back, though.

We are staying at Sundance Inn this year so I cannot comment on the beds but last year we stayed at the Wyoming Inn and they were some of the best beds I have ever slept on during a vacation.

You have certainly had your share of ';twists'; for this Yellowstone Vacation. Glad to see you are taking these in stride and adjusting well to whatever comes around. Hope you find nice beds. You could take Pozi%26#39;s advise and call the places now, talk to a manager to see if they have new beds and if they will guarantee you a newer bed. It might give you some peace of mind.

A few ideas. One, a back support for his car seat might help. Might be worth a ';test drive';. There are many models, flexes, sizes and shapes. Two, agree with others, getting out of the car as often as necessary for a stretch/walk will usually help. Three, pack a piece of plywood to put under his side of the mattress as necessary. Think of it as a security device to cover your belongings :). Good luck, good trip.

Thanks for all the input. I WILL get us to Tetons and Yellowstone this summer, even if I have to sell the dogs, LOL!!

Right now I can get Colter Bay Cabin for $109 or Jackson Lake lodge for $199. I bet the beds at Colter Bay are not top end, brand new ones!!

Also looking at Jackson Hole Lodge or some condos. I know we can get a place for $300 a night, but yikes, that is more than we can spend!

Maybe only 2 nights in Jackson, then maybe over in Idaho for a few.

Thanks again, and I%26#39;ll keep on planning!
