Please advise on these Yellowstone reservations

We have reservations for 3 nights at Old Faithful Inn the first week in June, and then 2 nights at Mammoth Hot Springs Lodge. Is this enough time to see the park? We were thinking of adding an extra night at the Inn if we haven%26#39;t allowed ourselves enough time and we can get it. Is the Yellowstone Lake Hotel well located? People seem to really like the food there.

We%26#39;ll be coming in from Jackson and will return there to spend two nights. Any recommendations for a nice place to stay that won%26#39;t break the bank would be appreciated.

If you have the time and money to add another night to your stay, you won%26#39;t regret it. Lake Hotel is well placed for visiting the east side of the park. Spend some time in evening or early morning looking for wildlife in Hayden Valley (north of Fishing Bridge). You might see wolves, grizzly bears, elk, bison and other animals.

The Falls of the Yellowstone are a don%26#39;t miss and the morning light is great for pictures. The trip out to the east entrance is beautiful and sometimes good for wildlife sightings. There are lots of things to do in Cody too. That might be another option for an extra night.

Sorry, I don%26#39;t know much about lodging in Jackson.

Canyon is more centrally located. Lake is nice, also, food is fine and the porch overlooking the meadow and, in the distance, the Lake, is nice with a wine or beer.

Mammoth is OK, but not one I%26#39;d choose.

If you can change locations, fine, but you will have a great time in the park whereever you stay. You have enough time to see the park. If you are observers of wildlife, you will want to retrace your steps several times, different times of day. Bring cooler and binoculars.

If you have the time it wouldn%26#39;t hurt to stay another night. If so, I would try to stay in the Lake or Canyon areas. I enjoyed driving between those areas looking for wildlife in the Hayden Valley. We stayed 2 nights in Jackson at the Painted Buffalo and it was a clean, standard hotel. Prices seemed pretty high in Jackson, I think we paid $140 ish per night and that was on the lower end as I recall.

I wrote about our trip on a personal website you might find helpful to read about where we went, wildlife viewing tips, geyser areas etc. at :

Have a great trip!

we%26#39;ve been to ynp the last 4 summers in a row. i%26#39;ve come to like the east side of the park better. the lake yellowstone %26amp; canyon areas are my favorites.

the drive out the ne entrance is stunning, both the beartooth pass hwy to red lodge %26amp; also the chief joseph hwy to cody.

a visit to red lodge or to cody would be a great side trip for an added night if you have the time. the rodeo in cody is a ';can%26#39;t miss'; if you have the time. the buffalo bill museum is also something to see, along with the irma hotel. going out the ne entrance you can take the chief joseph to cody %26amp; come back thru the east entrance giving you a nice loop that not a very long drive. cody back to jackson is only 170 miles.

our favorite places in jackson are the sundance inn (1 bk. from the square), any of the town square inns, %26amp; wagon wheel village. all are less than $140/night. a more upscale place is inn on the creek which is a very quaint/private 8 room inn on cache creek. it%26#39;s about 4 blocks from the square %26amp; rooms run from $180-$280.

I would add another night in the Cody area and enjoy the museums and rodeo.

I want to thank you all for your help. We%26#39;ve added an extra night to our stay and were able to get a cabin at the Lake Hotel for two nights. We%26#39;ll only stay one night at Mammoth. We%26#39;re working on getting to Cody now.

you%26#39;re going to love the lake hotel area. try to make reservations for dinner now that you have a room there. they give preference to guests. the atmosphere in the hotel lobby/bar area is great.

We were able to get a dinner reservation for one night at the Lake Hotel, so we%26#39;ll have to keep trying for the second night. Apparently the word is out!
