Probably an often asked question...but:
Looking for some guidance on our trip this summer.
Day 1 - Driving from Calgary, Canada, to Great Falls
Day 2 - Driving from Great Falls to West Yellowstone
Days 3 to 7 - Staying in West Yellowstone to explore the Park and hopefully a (long) day trip to Grand Tetons.
Day 8 - Driving from West Yellowstone to Great Falls
Day 9 - Driving from Great Falls to Calgary
Will 5 days be enough time to spend in YNP and have a full day in GT?
How long does it take to drive from W YS to GT?
Thanks!
Yellowstone and Teton Itinerary - advice?
Sorry, I%26#39;ve never driven from West Yellowstone to the Grand Tetons, but why don%26#39;t you plan to stay a night in Jackson or there abouts? It%26#39;s a much more lively and varied place than West Yellowstone and a better base for the Tetons.
That%26#39;s the only real suggestion I have on your trip -- we always come from the south, so I don%26#39;t know about the Montana legs of your trip.
Yellowstone and Teton Itinerary - advice?
Five days in the park is great. Check the maps; you can drive through the YNP directly to GTNP. Length of time? Depends where you start from and traffic, but in any event, start early to give you time to enjoy GTNP, perhaps even an overnight. If at all possible, consider staying in YNP, to avoid the back and forthing, and to spend more time at the many sights, including the wildlife. Advice on in-park lodging is in many of these posts. You could consider also entering the park through the N. entrance if you get lodging in the park. You might use one of the days, albeit a long one, to drive out the NE or E entrance to Cody, see the Museums and Rodeo (if overnight), and return the other entrance; spectacular drives. Overnight in Cody would be better.
I meant to add the following; consider, if you can afford the time, going into Glacier National Park via Going to the Sun Highway. Blow your mind beauty. But, it will mean some trade offs in terms of when you start your day, how much driving you want, and other places noted in my, perhaps other, responses to your original post.
You can drive from West Yellowstone to Jackson Hole in one day. We did it last year with a stop at Old Faithful for lunch and made it to Jackson Hole by supper.
I would try to spend one night in Jackson Hole and one night in Cody, then spend the rest in West Yellowstone.
