Fourth of July in Cheyenne

We will be flying into Denver on the 4th of July and making our way to the Black Hills of S.D. We are thinking about driving to Cheyenne and staying overnight the first night to break up the trip and possibly catch some fireworks or other celebrations in Cheyenne. We would probably arrive in cheyenne about noon. Should we try to make a day of it in Cheyenne or head straight for the Black Hills. We are a family of 4 with two teenage boys. Any recommendations for hotels within walking distance of fireworks displays?

Fourth of July in Cheyenne

Spending July 4th would certainly save you from the fatigue of driving all the way to the Black Hills on your fly-in day. There are a couple of July 4th events you might consider during your Cheyenne stop.

Cheyenne Depot (downtown) -- July 4th celebration with local bands, vendors, a children%26#39;s parade, etc. Usually from around 10 am - 4 pm.

Ice Cream Social (Nagle Warren Mansion B%26amp;B downtown) -- Free ice cream, lemonade, and cake at an old fashioned ice cream social during the afternoon.

Fireworks (Frontier Park)- Big display at dusk that can be seen from all over town. Bands play before the fireworks start.

Frontier Park really isn%26#39;t within walking distance of any hotels, but all properties are within 5 minutes drive time.

Enjoy your trip up our way!

Fourth of July in Cheyenne

I%26#39;d stop for the night in Cheyenne. Two teenage boys with a little imagination - this IS the Old West. Check out the Depot, then drive East on Lincolnway (16th St)to see BIG BOY. ';The world%26#39;s largest steam locomotive, this powerful coal-fired engine was designed to pull a 3600-ton train over steep grades between Cheyenne and Ogden, Utah.';

July 4th is on a Friday, there will be eats and treats down at the Depot. Cheyenne will be gettin%26#39; beautified for Frontier Days. Go into the Plains and look up at that stained glass ceiling. Check out the Gunslingers as they do their nightly ';schtick'; downtown. A little corny, but fun.

Say hello to Cheyenne for me! I lived there for a year and really miss it at times!

There are some great shops downtown with western decor. Check them out.
