After looking at rv%26#39;s and trailers, we realized what we want, we can%26#39;t afford, and what we can afford, we don%26#39;t want/or can%26#39;t fix up in time.
So.... I just booked 3 nights in YS
Aug 5 Old Faithful Lodge Cabin
Aug 6 Canyon Pioneer Cabin
Aug 7 Canyon Pioneer Cabin.
Now I have to plan my trip around those. I am very excited about staying at the Old Faithful area. I know it is busy and full of tourists, but I like the idea that I can get up at dawn and watch OF!! Plus since I was a kid, I wanted to stay there!!
I%26#39;m looking at Colter Bay Cabins, Signal Lodge Cabins or Luton%26#39;s Cabins near Tetons for Aug 3 and 4.
We probably will camp along the way to and from the parks.. maybe even try to stay in a tipi somewhere.
Any input or places I should look at??????
A huge change in YS trip plans...
The Colter Bay cabin I stayed in was basic but just fine. My wife and I once stayed at Signal Mtn Lodge in a lakefront cabin that was roomy and clean with a balcony overlooking Lake Jackson. I recall that it had a kitchen, though we didn%26#39;t use it. There%26#39;s a campground by the lake very near the lodge that looked attractive.
Also, Flagg Ranch just a couple of miles from Yelowstone South entrance has a campground. It isn%26#39;t the most (or least) attractive place I%26#39;ve camped in, but works fine as a one night waystop.
A huge change in YS trip plans...
you%26#39;ll love the lodge now that renovations have been completed, finally! enjoy your visit!
Big changes CasaAzul. We have completely revamped our trip too. We will be staying at Old Faithful about a week after you. (Aug 11) I am excited about staying there too. I saw it about 30 years ago, and can%26#39;t wait to see it again!
How long are you planning to stay in the Yellowstone area now? Are you thinking about tent camping some nights? Did you want to stay outside the park some nights? We are staying in Gardiner to be closer to the north part of the park, access to rafting and a possible ghost town day trip.
I know there is a place to stay in a Tipi up near Glacier (Blackfeet Culture camp), and there are some yurts around the Flathead lake. I saw Tipi%26#39;s advertised at a campground in Cody, but they seemed to be just plopped down in the middle of an RV park.
Our trip was getting out of hand financially. (This was supposed to be the cheaper trip year, LOL) When I was trying to find some place to stay near Little Bighorn for the I stumbled across the air conditioned KOA Kabins. We are now staying at the Cody KOA and one in Whitefish for the west side of Glacier. I can not vouch for them, as we have not yet been there, but they are reasonable, have pools and we will have a kitchen in some of them which will be a nice change from motel rooms.
Whatever you decide you are going to have a fabulous trip!
Hey Casa,
We will be departing Signal Muntain Lodge on the day you%26#39;ll be coming into GTNP. I guess we%26#39;ll have to put Moose Drool on hold!
The fun of planning is being flexible and planning again! You%26#39;ll have a great time no matter what your itinerary.
:)
kencolian... glad I%26#39;m in good company with revamping trips, lol. Too bad we will be missing visiting each other. I have to get back home in time to get ready for teaching late Aug! You will love the KOA cabins. We have stayed in them a few times. I really like the option of not sleeping on the ground, and having at least a bit of wood between you and the wildlife!! I%26#39;ve tent camped for sooooooo long... just ready for something else, lol...
We hope to be in the Teton/Yellowstone area for 7-8 days, with travel days on either side.
We probably will tent camp on the travel days, and possibly in Tetons, but I%26#39;m looking at the tent cabins or regular cabins at Colter Bay as an option. We LOVE KOA Cabins! Have stayed at a few
Gardiner is on my list, my son wants to horseback ride and we can find inexpensive motels there.
pozj... We may be in the Tetons the day before or so. We%26#39;ll keep in touch over the months, that Moose Drool sounds awesome!
We were in YNP and Grand Tetons in late July 2004. We stayed a couple of nights in a cabin in the Canyon area and I was just enthralled with the Canyon area - more so than I was the two nights we stayed the Snow Lodge in the Old Faithful area! I would highly recommend a good cup of coffee and a sunrise at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone!
Hi Casa Azul,
Thanks for the confirmation about the KOA%26#39;s they seemed like a nice choice for us, but I am a little nervous. I did alot of camping and some backpacking when I was younger, but my husband does not care for it. (And I not sure how my bones would deal with sleeping on the ground now!)
I am getting excited about our trip and still have more than 5 months to wait.
