Will lodging be available? Is there a chance of being snowed in?
Our long awaited trip, scheduled for June, has gone into the tank for a wedding. Friends of 40 years or trip planned a year? Tough choice but I guess we%26#39;d better choose the friends. We may be able to reschedule to September if that could be a workable time. Not sure about Glacier NP as that was part of our plan. DH wants to drive cross country and I%26#39;m hoping September might be a workable alternative.
Is September a good time to go to Yellowstone?
I have only been to Yellowstone in late May and early June and will be going again this year in late May. My Mom and Dad and my sister and her family have been several times in early/mid September. The weather was getting cooler but they had no snow and did not have trouble getting accomadations.

When in September are you looking at? Snowed in in September really wouldn%26#39;t be something that would happen, but certainly there can be some light snow, frosts, and pretty chilly evenings and early mornings.
We are planning to be in the park this year, the third week of September. It is one of my favorite times to be in the park, as generally fall weather is less unpredictable than spring weather. The hoards of tourists are gone and I actually enjoy seeing the park with a light dusting of snow.
We have visited in September (week after Labor Day) and October (first week) and loved both. We even camped out both times in a tent and were fine. But plan on layers, and coats at night.
Things may have changed somewhat but even the week after Labor day there were less stores open, and fewer ranger activities. Things quiet down quickly. But that is a good thing too as you will have fewer people and less traffic to contend with than you would have in June. So maybe it is a good thing that friends come first :-)
Thanks! It would be the third or fourth week of September. I am hoping DH will go for this. Your input is really appreciated!
Lodging and services within the Park begin to close down after Labor Day. Check this website for updates after May 1st:

There are still plenty of lodging and services in communities bordering the town like West Yellowstone.
September is one of our favorite times of the year in the park. We go in almost daily after work and spend at least one weekend at the Lake Hotel.
There is a chance of snow in the mountains and roads can get icy at night if there are rain storms. But, it is usually the best month with warm, sunny afternoons and chilly nights. The weather is somewhat unpredictable - this area has the reputation for having at least one small snow shower every month out of the year! But, bring enough clothing that you can dress in layers, and you will be fine.
Don%26#39;t miss the elk rut (mating). Great viewing between Madison Junction and West Yellowstone, and other river valleys throughout the park.
