Hoping to spend a week in Yellowstone %26amp;/or Grand Tetons at beginning of June. A major hurdle seems to be which airport to use for our destination. We have multiple options for our starting point. Because we will only have a week, we want to use our time wisely without breaking the bank.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Best airports from New England to Yellowstone/Grand TetonsWe always fly into Jackson Hole. I never compared prices but its more expensive than Salt Lake City. Its right in the Grand Tetons is near Yellowstone.
Very pretty drive to YNP from there.
Best airports from New England to Yellowstone/Grand TetonsBozeman Montana is an equally viable option. Also a nice drive to YNP. May be more convenient than Jackson if you are staying in West Yellowstone.
check out Idaho Falls too...it is about an hour and a half drive to Jackson from there, usually much cheaper flights and car rentals. You probably know this, but if your times are flexible for the days that you fly in and out, try priceline. I just bought a roundtrip ticket to Jackson for $310 that would have cost me $720 if I bought it through Delta. It worked out too that it was the exact same ticket that I would have bought, but in general you have to be willing to have flexible times on the day you are traveling.
Keeping in mind that I haven%26#39;t yet made this trip, just researched..
If I had just a week I would go to Jackson round trip.
If I had a couple of extra days I would go to Billings and drive the Beartooth Highway, enter YNP in the NE entrance, spend 4 nights in Yellowstone, then drive to Grand Teton and fly home from Jackson.
We are actually taking a 3 week trip and flying in and out of Denver for several reasons.
Airfares from New England are outrageous right now. I haven%26#39;t booked mine yet because I am waiting for them to come down a bit. I am amazed how the prices can change from minute to minute. Who sits there and controls those prices? I don%26#39;t get it.
Good luck and have fun planning!
We flew from Boston to Jackson Hole last week of June. Came back July 4th which saved some money on the flight. If you only have one week I would fly right into Jackson. The car rental was reasonable, you are flying right into the Tetons. The landing was beautiful. I found flying from Logan the cheapest. I looked at flying from Providence, but it was more expensive. Considered flying from manchester, NH to Idaho falls because the price would have been similar, the flight times and landing times would have meant we would have had to spend a night in Idaho falls which I didn%26#39;t want to do. We paid around $450 and we purchase last March. I kept trying multiple sights, with multiple days and after I got the airfare I wanted to pay I finished booking the lodging. I had already had some nights reserved.
WOW!!! Thanks to all of you for all of the information. It gives me more to work with. Sadly, we are limited to time frames because of employers so we just do the best with what we have. Thanks again.
bozeman !!!!!!!!!
We are flying out of Bradley and into Jackson Hole late June 08. I looked around quite a bit and couldnt find a cheaper route for us (we are in western ma). and jackson hole is MUCH cheaper to rent a car and unlimitied miles. Good luck!
I too, am planning a trip this july - already have lodging booked at big sky - still need to get airfare, but i%26#39;m trying to figure out where to fly to. we want to spend a few days either before going to big sky around mt rushmore, or deadwood or cody...theres just so much to see! the airfare will determine which point of entry, but if anyone has any thoughts???
Rates for cars are cheaper in Jackson than Cody or Billings. Can use this as a base point and stay in West Yellowstone, Cody and Jackson.
