Hello,
I am planning a trip this June to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. We are flying into Salt Lake City and I have another post on hotels there but am pretty close to booking. I am also all set while in Yellowstone - booked year out and am staying at Old Faithful Inn, Mammoth Hot Springs Cabin and Lake Yellowstone Hotel for 3 nights each.
This leaves us 4 days to explore Grand Teton National Park and the Jackson area. At this point, the hubby may be in TV withdrawal so I am not looking for more park lodging at this point - unless I really shouldn%26#39;t miss.
Am looking for lodging advice. I%26#39;ve been reading conflict reports to stay in Teton Village, the GTNP or Jackson downtown area.
Personal experiences and first hand recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks All!
Jackson in June - Hotel Advice
i would stay in downtown jackson. somewhere close to the square. any of the town square inns are good. i really like the sundance inn. it%26#39;s one block from the square %26amp; very clean. great owners %26amp; every morning they have a suggested activity for that day. good continental breakfast %26amp; cookies/lemonade in the afternoon. the wagon wheel village is also very good but it%26#39;s about 4 blocks from the square. for a very romantic place, inn on the creek is our favorite. the wort is the nicest place in town but be prepared to drop some bucks. it%26#39;s really hard to find a bad place to stay around the square. all are nice.
i love teton village but it%26#39;s just so removed from downtown that we enjoy just visiting there %26amp; maybe going to dinner at the mangy moose. while you%26#39;re in jackson make sure you eat breakfast at the bunnery, lunch at the sweetwater, %26amp; dinner at any number of places is great.
Jackson in June - Hotel Advice
I agree stay in Jackson. You are close to great shopping and restaurants. We stayed at the Wyoming Inn last year and are staying at the Sundance Inn this year.
We stayed at the Teton Lodge in the village and really enjoyed the location. There is a road that goes into teton national park directly without the hassle of driving through the traffic in jackson to get there. We enjoyed the location without all the hussle bussle in town and the road to the park was full of wildlife in the mornings and evenings. the distance to downtown Jackson is not that far for seeing downtown and the Mangy Moose at Teton Village is a great restaurant.
If you are staying 3-4 nights you might check out VRBO.com for a condo. We got a great condo in the Aspens in June for a fraction of what the hotels are, plus you get your own bedrooms, possibly a washer/dryer, full kitchen, etc. Some of the property management companies require 4 night stays but not sure that%26#39;s the case with all. We had the same problem, doing Yellowstone is pretty ';rustic'; and we all wanted some of the conveniences of home for at least part of the trip, i.e. a good bed, tv, pool.
I would stay in Jackson. We liked the Buckrail Lodge about 6 blocks from the square in Jackson. It is a small motel (12 rooms) with a log cabin feel. It%26#39;s immaculately clean with a great atmosphere. Rates are around $117 per night, which is very reasonable for Jackson. Check out their website: buckraillodge.com. If you like it, book early, as it fills quickly.
Good news: they have TV! :)
Have a great trip.
