Hubby and I will be in Jackson Hole the lst week in June. His sister and family of 6 will join us there. We are staying several days in Jackson, then on to YNP and on to Cody. My question is has anyone done or heard of a safari type tour out of Jackson, thought I read somewhere about a safari/photography tour (it may have been out of YNP). Can anyone recommend a float/rafting trip or great place to do horseback riding? Anything we should not miss in Jackson Hole? Favorite restaurants? Sorry so many questions. I may never get back to Wyoming and want to make the most of my time there.
Need planning advise
Barker-Ewing float trips are a must in my opinion to see Grand Teton-Jackson area. Gunbarrel Restaurant is the best in Jackson Hole.

Spend some time here on these forums doing research--there is so much info to be had just by reading an hour. You can put in keywords like hoseback, rafting, and get tons of great information. Posters on these boards are awesome, including some local experts with invaluable info. Have a great trip!
OK...here are a few things:
Horseback Riding: Jackson Country Outfitters (south end of the Valley) or Togwotee Mountain Lodge (north end of the Valley). Both are the only ones that are permitted in the area they ride, so not a lot of crowds.
Wildlife Tour/Safari: Teton Science School has this dialed down. You can probably come close to getting your own van because of the size of your group. Great way to see wildlife in the morning and learn about the area.
Restauants: Calico, Mangy Moose, and Rendezvous Bistro along with the Gun Barrel (great steaks. Billy%26#39;s has the best bugers in town...right on the square.
Whitewater Rafting: Definitely do whitewater over the scenic if there are kids involved (unless the kids are too young). The scenics are beautiful, but too long and boring for kids. The whitewater is exciting, but it is intermediate level and not too much and you do not need experience and the scenery is just as beautiful. Most companies offer scenic and whitewater combo trips. Would recommend Dave Hansen Whitewater or Barker Ewing...check out their websites.
Other things: Alpine Slides @ Snow King resort for the kids, taking the gondola up at Teton Village, hikes around Jenny Lake or Phelps Lake in GTNP, The Bar J or Bar T 5 for chuckwagon dinner/shows. Definitely spend as much time out of the car as possible! You see sooooo much more.
Hope this helps!
some of my favorite places to eat are the sweetwater, burke%26#39;s chop house, cowboy steakhouse, %26amp; thai me up. really there are no bad places to eat in jackson imo. bubba%26#39;s,jedediah%26#39;s, %26amp; the bunnery are my favorite breakfast places.
some great things to do include taking the boat ride across jenny lake %26amp; hike up to inspiration point. it%26#39;s a short hike %26amp; even children can do it. besides making the figure 8 loop in ynp i%26#39;d also head out the ne entrance, doing the chief joseph scenic drive to cody. the rodeo is a must imo. the buffalo bill museum is great %26amp; while in cody you should go by the sierra trading post outlet for some nice bargains.
we love the yellowstone hotel %26amp; especially like eating dinner there. it%26#39;s a beautiful area. all of the ynp lodges are neat but you have to see the one at old faithful. spurge %26amp; have a homemade milkshake at one of the park soda fountains found at most of the lodge areas.
if you have any boating enthusists, you can always rent a boat %26amp; go out on jackson lake. they have any thing from a canoe to a pontoon.
go over to teton village %26amp; take the tram up to the top of rendevous mountain. great views %26amp; there will still be snow up there in june i%26#39;m sure.
Teton Village is great but I think they closed the gondola to the top of the mt. Eat and have fun at the Mangy Moose - eat at Bubba%26#39;s - eat at Nora%26#39;s Fishcreek Inn in Wilson - incredible trout! Wander the boutiques and galleries - go to the National Museum of Wildlife art. Go over the Togotwee pass to a real western town, Dubois. Take a float trip down the Snake and go to the top of Signal Mt. Walk alot in Yellowstone. We have been there twice in the first week of June and it snowed both times so be prepared. Be sure and visit the Old Faithful Lodge and the Lake Yellowstone Hotel - they have tea in an incredible sunroom. Cody has the Buffalo Bill Museum. Go up part of the Beartooth Hwy if you can - some may be closed due to snow but you may be able to access some of it. Incredible views and history. Drive out of Jackson and over Wilson to the scenic Idaho state route that goes by Lower and Upper Mesa Falls. Beautiful and some lovely places to eat on the Snake River and then you can make a loop by going into the Western entrance of Yellowstone. We did that and the bison (many) had recently given birth and there were all these small fluffs of orange fur (the baby bison) all over the prarie - just incredible. You will be there early so will see lots of babies of many species. I am jealous! We love it there.
