Flying into Salt Lake City 1st week in June. Will rent a mid-size SUV to travel to Yellowstone and Cody. Question is does anyone have any advice on whether I should book my rental car now or is it possible to get a better deal closer to our departure date? Sometimes I know they post last minute deals but does anyone have any experience where this worked out for them. Can rent a mid-size SUV now on hotwire for about $370 for the 6 days we will be there. Maybe prices go up more toward departure date. Would appreciate any sdvice I really don%26#39;t know what would be best.
Quandary over SUV rental. Need advice.
Just booked a SUV for 10 days from Denver for $331. Just keep checking the major companies. I booked originally in Jan. and changed today because I found such a great deal. I will have to pay an extra $60 for extra person driving but that is still less than $400 for 10 days. I will continue to check each week. If you do not have to use a credit card then you can always change up to the last minute.

CeCe do you mind me asking who you booked with? The ones I checked required a credit card. Thanks for your info.
I booked with Thrifty car rental. I booked online but called to confirm the type of car, extra fees etc. The salesperson told me that anytime I found a cheaper rate on Thrifty that I could just call back and change my reservation.
Thanks CeCe I will try their online site and see what I get. Thanks again.
Hey CeCe - Just looked on Thrifty the rate for my 6 days was $427.84. You really got a good rate for 10 days. I will continue to look and hopefully come across a really good deal. Thanks anyway.
NOLA, remember CeCe is flying into Denver -- much bigger airport and rates can be substantially different. Just don%26#39;t want you to have rate envy!!
Hello Shell Net. Good point about the bigger airport. No rate envy, always glad to hear when fellow travellers get good deals. These forums are great and the wisdom and insight from 1st hand experiences is priceless. I will keep checking rates and probably book with hotwire if no one post any bad experiences thru them. Thanks.
Sorry for the envy!! Just keep checking because rates do change often!!! Hope you have a good trip.
NO
The only thing you need to make sure of with hotwire is that if you book through their site, you pay the full amount up front and I don%26#39;t think you can cancel. You will need to check on that. Sometimes, their quotes throws you over to the rental agency and those reservations can be cancelled.
I have rental out of Denver through Hertz for a Subaru Outback for $543 for 14 days. This is the 3rd vehicle I hve book due to rate changes. It can be cancelled if a better deal comes along and I can upgrade to a mid-size SUV.
I feel like I have something in hand now, but I can change later if a better deal arises. I will check back often before our June trip.
Good luck.
Denver is cheaper to rent cars from than SLC. I would not expect to get the same deal that CeCe got. I checked out the rates for awhile and got back replies that indicated that SLC has a history of high rental car rates as compared to many places, like Denver.
