Is it better to take a tour or to just research what you want to do and see and then drive yourself around the park? I had not planned to take a tour but I don%26#39;t want to miss out on must sees/ and do%26#39;s.
Should you take Tours/Excursions in YS
You have much more flexibility by driving yourself, in terms of when and where you choose to stop, how long you stay at that location, etc. The figure 8 road loop enables you to see everything worth seeing (including a few side roads), unless you are considering hiking as well. Bring binoculars, don%26#39;t be shy about inquiring of folks with spotting scopes; you won%26#39;t regret asking. Cooler is nice, beverages, snacks, sandwiches. It%26#39;s a big park, and with this cooler you can remain in a location of interest w/o running to a market/cafe.

BTW, I just noticed you have posted several times. It%26#39;s more efficient if you create and continue one post for, say, Yellowstone NP, so others, like myself, know your plans and questions and don%26#39;t risk repeating oneself.
No.I have posted once. It is about excursions. You are looking at somebody else.
Partially right... I selected an original itinerary by you. Others were your responses to other posters.
Hi prac1,
I would do your research and see things at your own pace. If you want to spend more time at a location, you can. I would also check on Ranger talks. They are very interesting. Check the park paper when you arrive.
When I think of a tour bus, I remember one that was stopped at one of the Canyon over looks. As we walked up to it, the tour leader started blowing a whistle. All of the people on the tour came running back to the bus. Not all tours are like that, it sticks out as following the groups schedule.
You will find great ideas on the board for things to see and do. If you have any questions, just ask.
Enjoy your trip!
Thanks rwdw. That was my original intention, but I know how quickly things book up and I didn%26#39;t want to get locked out. I like the ranger talks and the ranger led hikes look interesting if they match your daily schedule. I know the hikes are posted online closer to summer, not sure about the talks. It won%26#39;t be long now until the fun begins!

Here is a link to the ranger led hikes for 2008: nps.gov/yell/…rangerhikes-descriptions.htm
They will not up date the Ranger talk schedule untill late May. Here is the Link for 2007 and it should be good for 2008: www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/rangerprog.htm
I hope this helps!
rwdw, Thanks. Yes it will help. I will add it to my YS trip folder. Boy is that getting big!
I think that posting a new post actually is better... more people will see it. Once a thread gets beyond a page... most people won%26#39;t read it all and won%26#39;t post.
Hey prac1... don%26#39;t do a tour... do your own thing and enjoy the flexibility you have. We all can help you with must sees/dos.
Also you may want to visit www.yellowstone.net.... I post there as DebbieL
