We are planning one splurge while in Yellowstone with dinner either at Old Faithful Inn or Lake Yellowstone Hotel.
I see several thumbs up for Old Faithful Inn . How does the dinner at Lake Yellowstone Hotel compare?
Do I need to make reservations now for the end of July?
speaking of dinner...I made reservations for Old Faithful Inn last year in Feb. for our late May trip to YNP.
speaking of dinner...i%26#39;ve never had a bad meal at lake yellowstone hotel. great atmosphere too.
Food quality for me was quite even at the Old Faithful Inn and Yellowstone Lake Hotel. They are both run by Xanterra so their suppliers are the same. The food was fine, especially considering that it%26#39;s the middle of the wilderness. :)
Whichever one you decide, it%26#39;s a good idea to make reservations as soon as you can.

If you have reservations at OF Inn... will you usually be seated around your ressie time? Or do they tend to run late? We will be driving in from either Jackson or West YS, need to plan times.
Thanks.
Make your reservations ASAP.About a week or so ago when booking for June, I was limited to certain times, with the most desirable times booked already.
BOOK NOW...you can always cancel. We like Lake Hotel based on atmosphere. You can relax before dinner in the Sun Room (bar and usually some music). Afterwards, we like to stroll across the road and sit on the benches in front of Yellowstone Lake and watch the sunset.
One thing I%26#39;d have to honestly say about the restaurants at either Old Faithful Inn or Lake Yellowstone Hotel (or Mammoth, for that matter) is that the quality isn%26#39;t four-star. Don%26#39;t get me wrong - it%26#39;s fine - but I haven%26#39;t been terribly impressed with either for dining experiences (and we%26#39;ve been to both a total of about 20 times). As an earlier post mentioned, don%26#39;t forget that you%26#39;re out in the middle of the wilderness. Don%26#39;t go in with super high expectations for the food. The ambience of both hotels is what you%26#39;re going to YNP for; so enjoy the view, the geysers and the animals.
(If I had to pick, though, I%26#39;d go with Old Faithful Inn.)
Have a great trip!
Both places have much to recommend them. I agree that the food quality isn%26#39;t the very highest, but then you%26#39;re not paying four star prices either. We found the service at Lake Hotel dining room to be superior, but that can easily vary from season to season.
Whichever you choose, allow plenty of time before dinner to have drink and enjoy the surroundings. The Sun Room at the Lake Hotel is really nice for that, as is the great old bar at the Inn.
If you go with the Inn, try to reserve a table in the ';old'; section. It%26#39;s got lots more character than the ';new'; room.
Thanks for the input everyone. I will make my reservations today, probably at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel on our first evening there as we are staying in the cabins there and meeting friends and can plan our next 4 days with celebrated anticipation!
As far as 4 star rating, the prices on the Lake Hotel menu are 4 star prices compared to my neck of the woods so I guess I am expecting a bit more quality. Thanks for the warning on that.

And you are from Boston??? LOL Seriously, expect nothing special and be happy if it is. Enjoy the trip.
