2-3 days in yellowstone

My husband and I have the following planned:

Leave Seattle and stay one night at Couer D Alene, ID

and drive to and stay one night in Bozeman. Leave Bozeman early for YNP. Stay two nights at Old Faithful Inn. Leave in the afternoon of the third day and stay in Bozeman before heading home.

Looking for opinions on this drive. Thinking of Old

faithful and Lake Yellowstone the first day. Don%26#39;t

know which direction to go after that. Opinions please!

2-3 days in yellowstone

With an early start, you could go to West Yellowstone or the North entrance for your second night. Ditto, reverse trip. Gives you more time in the park, which you will relish.

Once there, you could just drive the figure 8 loop to your heart%26#39;s content. If focusing on wildlife, it%26#39;s everywhere, but particularly observable in the Lamar and Hayden Valleys. Bring a cooler, beverages and food, then you won%26#39;t have to leave a particularly nice observation point or event to return to a market or restaurant. Bring binoculars. The NPS interactive map on its website is instructive and helpful.

I meant to add, Lake Yellowstone is farther from some of the highlights of the trip, though certainly worth exploring as an area of the park.

I agree to do the Grand loop area but also might look into going out toward the NE entrance to enjoy spectacular views and wildlife.

Isn%26#39;t Lake Yellowstone on the grand loop? We%26#39;re looking for some several short hikes to do which are not real time consuming

CeCeDouglasville, agree with you. I just assumed, inappropriately, that seeing Lamar Valley included that extension of their sightseeing.

Yes, the Lake is on the loop.

Have you seen this map from the YNP website?

nps.gov/archive/yell/interactivemap/index.htm

You find it under Plan Your Trip...

This map shows a nice hike, Mt. Washburne.

nps.gov/archive/…trtocnyn.htm

Drop the %26#39;e%26#39; on Washburn.

Tower Falls has a nice hike to the bottom.

A few short hikes: Observation point at Old Faithful, Mystic Falls, Storm point, Pelican Creek, Natural Bridge, Artist paintpots, Trout Lake, Narrow Gauge Terrace, Yellowstone Picnic area, or Lost Lake. Most around 2 miles. If you have particular things you would like to see I could be more specific. So much to see!

We%26#39;re mostly interested in scenery, like the waterfalls, the grand canyon of yellowstone, pools and geysers which are interesting. We have good binoculars too.

Hi again, neighbor. The Loop Road, and the map I posted, above, lists all the things to see. You really cannot go wrong by simply driving that road and pulling over to the areas noted both on the map and by other people who have replied. You will have time to see a lot, so don%26#39;t hesitate to pull over either at viewpoints, overlooks, and where people are at pull off areas, because they are probably watching wildlife. YNP and its road system are practically a guided tour in themselves.
