Hello,
I%26#39;m booked in Canyon lodge for four nights the first week of August, and near GTNP for two. Beyond the normal stuff people drive to, is there an activity or attraction that I should make a point of doing/seeing?
I%26#39;ve been browsing some of the websites and there has been mention of horseback rides, wild life tours, etc. Can anyone offer suggestions as to which of these is worth it and which is not? Even though I will have a car, are the bus tour generally worth it?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Anything I absolutely cannot miss/should do?We always tour by car because we can stop when we want and take as along as we want at a particular spot. We have always enjoyed the Snake River Raft trips in Jackson Hole and horseback riding either in the park or at Cody. I purchased several books about YNP and they were helpful last year and I am sure will be just as helpful this year.
Anything I absolutely cannot miss/should do?If you have binoculars, bring them, you won%26#39;t regret it. If you see folks with spotting scopes, ask to look; it%26#39;s worth it, 20- 60 power vs. 8 to 10 with the binos. You will have plenty of time to drive, park, observe, hike, etc., sometimes returning to favorite places. the ';bison jams'; can be a pain, but eventually the cars move on. Be especially cautious if you drive after sunset, as the bison roam across and on the roads. And previous poster is correct, once you start on a trail or boardwalk, for the most part, it thins out. I suggest a cooler with beverages, sandwiches, etc. so you don%26#39;t have to return to a store/restaurant, just when the looking gets so good and you don%26#39;t want to leave that spot.
