What is the best (fastest) route from Jackson to Denver?
Mapquest says to leave Jackson, drive north to Moran and then head east through Dubois, Casper and then down to Denver.
I checked another online mapping source and it said to head south through Pinedale to Rock Springs and then take the Interstate to Cheyenne and down to Denver.
I would think that the mapquest route in the most scenic.
Is Rock Springs a faster route? If gets you to an interstate much quicker.
Fastest Route from Jackson to Denver
Another route, which I think is faster, is Jackson to Dubois to Lander to Rawlins (I80) then east to Cheyenne, then south to Denver. This is the route I have taken a number of times and plan on using this summer to get to Jackson.
Check on Google maps... I have found their directions and times much more reliable than Mapquest.
Fastest Route from Jackson to DenverIt also depends on your driving style. The more interstates the better if you are driving at illegal speed. We found the route via Rock Springs fast but travelled 90mph on I80. If you stick to limits I agree with Casa going through Rawlins. Google Maps says 4h13m Jackson to Rock Springs. Believe me, we did that much faster.
Tet
We are going a different route to Estes park from Moran,WY. If we weren%26#39;t doing the scenice drive and driving straight to Denver, I would go the route Casa suggests.
(of course, Tet could get you there in no time if you hire him to drive :) (hehe)
No need to hire me, I%26#39;ll do it for free hahaha.
I made a mistake on what I reported from Mapquest. It had the same route that Casa recommended.
I guess I need to decide if I am going to speed or drive legally:)
Thanks.
I would not think about speeding... lots of wildlife, other drivers, unknown roads/highways and yes, even Wyoming Highway Patrol... My ONLY 2 speeding tickets ever were in Wyoming!!!!
whateever you do DO NOT go south from rock springs into colo. at maybell into craig, the roads turns into gravel at the state line and you will still be hours away from craig and its wonderfull holiday inn. there was one light on in maybell when we went through after about 7 hours of driving with jack rabbits jumping over the jeep. lonely, isolated, and deserted with absolutely no services. i know i%26#39;ll never forget the trip.....
I guess maps can be deceptive. When I look at a map, it looks like it should be closer to head south to Rock Springs and get on the interstate quicker. However, the mileage listed on several online sources show it being significantly closer and less time to go north to Moran Junction and then drive to Rawlins.
Actually, we will be coming from Signal Mountain Lodge, so that makes the Dubois, to Rawlins route even more appealing.
I do plan to follow posted speed limits.
Which of the two routes is the most mountainous?
From Signal Mountain Lodge definitely go via Moran. (But you mentioned Jackson in your first post).Great drive from Moran to Dubois, very scenic. Bit curvy but nothing to worry about. And yes, always follow the speedlimits (;o)_
The reason I mentioned Jackson is that I thought we might stop there for breakfast on our way out of the area. It would also give us one last drive through Jackson Hole (with that view of the Tetons to our west) on our way out of the area.
I guess it doesn%26#39;t really matter in the long run. We may just play it by ear and decide the night before.
I am now in the process of going back through our schedule and seeing what I need to leave out. I know I have too much planned. Leaving out some things will make it more enjoyable. My kids will be much happier if I eliminate the early morning ideas, so I have basically scrapped most of them. We will all be much happier if I let them sleep a little later and not rush around in the mornings. If I wake up early (like I usually do), I can always take a short drive to watch wildlife and then go back and join them for breakfast a couple of hours later. With sunset times being around 9:00, we can do a lot of things in the late afternoons.
We did pick up a few extra hours in Denver. The airline made a schedule change on the day we depart and moved our flight from a 3:00 p.m. departure to a 6:50 departure. That will give us about 4 extra hours to enjoy Denver on our final day.
97 days and counting till we head west!
