Rapid City to Billings

We are traveling from Rapid City SD to Billings, Montana. How long will it take if we stop at Devils Tower, and the Little Big Horn battelfield along the way.

Thanks,

Rapid City to Billings

Hi Mike

How long is a piece of string? How long do you want to visit those places? The detour (don%26#39;t miss) to Devils Tower ';took'; us 2 hours, and we also visited Little Big Horn for 2 hours (also don%26#39;t miss). We didnot stay in Billings but in Red Lodge though on our way to Beartooth and Yellowstone.

Rapid City to Billings

Hello and welsome to TA,

It takes me about 2 hours from Rapid City to Devil%26#39;s Tower, count on at least an hour there and about an hour to Gillette, WY. From Gillette to Billings is about 3 1/2 hour straight thru and figure an hour or two at Little Bighorn Battlefield which is righ off the interstate.

All in all I would estimate total time as 8-10 hours depending on how long you stop and assuming you drive about 75-80mph on the interstate. It will be a little slower on the Devil%26#39;s Tower cutoff but I have accounted for that.

I would be sure to hit both of these sites as they are truely magnificent and special places.

I hope I have helped,

- Kery

Mike,

It%26#39;s 375 miles without the side trips. I would say you%26#39;ll average about 60mph (that%26#39;s figuring in gas and bathroom stops). That means 6.5 hours of drive time plus your stops at Devil%26#39;s Tower and LBH. If you figure each of those will be 2 hour stops then you%26#39;re looking at a 10.5 hour day. That%26#39;s not really that bad considering that almost half of that will be spent outside the car. Just leave early and take rests when you need. You may be able to make better time that I%26#39;ve estimated because you%26#39;ll be on interstate all the way. Montana%26#39;s interstates can be rough though.

enjoy!
